High School Cross-Country Team Takes Lonely Shelter Dogs On Their Morning Run

It warms the heart of dog lovers everywhere to be able to help abandoned shelter dogs. All over the country, the need to help these animals find forever homes is huge and challenging. It’s remarkable when a new idea comes around that brings attention to the cause of the lonely dogs who just want a family to call their own.

The cross country team at Saint Joseph High School in California managed to come up with a unique way to draw attention to the dogs needing homes, as well as giving them some extra special love and attention. The kids took over a dozen dogs from the Santa Barbara Animal Shelter on a short run. The dogs and kids seemed to have the time of their lives.

“I am not sure who was more excited and having the most fun … the dogs or the kids,” coach Luis Escobar said. “Either way, it was a great time and I am sure we will do it again sometime soon.”

The kids and dogs seemed very happy at the end of their run. One special dog named Fred got carried to the end when he was too tired to finish.
