Hummingbird-Shaped Icicle Is Naturally Created By Freeze-Thaw-Refreeze Cycle

Imagine waking up one morning and seeing this outside of your window.A Freeze-thaw-refreeze cycle naturally created a hummingbird-shaped icicle in the yard of Tammy Shriver from Michigan. It is a naturally-made ice sculpture of a hummingbird! Last week, water melted off of Tammy’s rooftop in Bangor, dripped onto the tree branches below, then naturally refroze in the shape of a hummingbird.

“I had been watching the icicle grow. On Wednesday, I opened the blind and it looked like a bird”After running outside to get more photos from different angles, Shriver took to her Facebook page to share the unusual icicle. “The wings, the way the leaves on the tree are, it made this ice-encased wing. It was just really cool,” Shriver said.

“My grandma loved hummingbirds, and I’m wondering if she sent me a hummingbird.”

A little bit of sunshine that day melted the hummingbird somewhat, transforming it into a different bird. One week later, the sculpture outside of Shriver’s window had completely vanished, but the memory and pictures remain.
