He often leaves food in feeders for squirrels and birds, especially in his neighborhood in Detroit. This time, he decided to up his game with all the time in his hands during the quarantine. James decided to build a tiny restaurant for tiny animals to enjoy their meals. He set out to build miniature wooden benches for this restaurant in his yard, building in it one inviting entrance for all his animal friends. James named this establishment, Maison du Noix which translates to “The Nut House” in English.
“We’ve been offering an opening course of a seed medley, followed by peanuts on the full shell, house-cut bread sticks, and a dessert of counter-softened apples,” James explains.
The animal customers started pouring inside the wee restaurant, enjoying themselves with the free food James had set out for them. This spread laid out is hard to resist for his friends.
“The squirrels and blue jays have been loving it,” James said.
The food in his wildlife café is for animals only, but the scenery is for everyone in his neighborhood to see. His neighbors who watched a Livestream of the café online were left amused.
“The response from humans has been pretty great with people stopping all the time to take a photo or watch the frenzy,” James said.
The Maison du Noix is a big success. Perhaps, not in the sense of earning a profit, but the animals fed and satisfied is what matters.
