The history of these dogs goes back a really long time. 5,000 years ago, the first North American settlers kept these pups as companions and for work.

They are closely related to other known breeds such as the Siberian husky, the samoyed and even the labrador. They require a lot of work to keep one of your own. Being sledge dogs, they require regular exercise. They don’t bark often but can be very vocal and howl real loud.Of course, since they were historically used in Arctic expeditions, they can withstand really cold temperatures.

They helped the initial North American settlers with hunting, tracking, hauling of gear, pulling sledges and keeping a lookout for potential bears.

They were used in both WW1 and WW2, to haul supplies to French troops in isolated mountain outposts and to sniff out mines.
