Strangers Held A Dachshund Parade For Elderly Neighbors

Ever since Friday, a dachshund, came into Lani’s life, he has stolen people’s hearts and turning heads. When Lani met Jaqueline who’s also a dog lover, the two planned to make their elderly neighbors happier. So they organized the dachshund parade, which absolutely brought their neighborhood much closer. There is something very special about dogs that brings people together. Just like what Friday, a little dachshund, did recently to help get the entire neighborhood closer to each other.

Friday has become quite a local celebrity in their La Jolla, California, neighborhood.“He’s intelligent, fearless, playful and walks proudly with a strut that turns heads,” hi mom, Lani Nguyen, told The Dodo. “He’s the most gregarious little dachshund, making friends with everyone he meets. He’s been dubbed ‘The Mayor of Marine Street Beach’ and everywhere he goes people smile as they shout, ‘It’s Friday!’”

One day, Friday and his mom was having a walk when they stumbled upon Jacqueline Bokor who’s also a dog lover. They talked about dogs and how they make them happy every time.

“We were quickly reminded about the power of love a dog shares, and how each encounter can light up someone’s day,” Lani said.

Jacqueline came to mention her 97-year-old neighbor Chris McCullough who misses having a dog since his dachshund died 14 years ago. With this, Lani also shared her neighbor, Carolyn Yorston, 96, loves dachshund and wanted to have one for herself.

That’s when Lani and Jacqueline decided to organize something that would make their elderly neighbors happy — a dachshund parade! — with social distancing, of course.

Lani contacted the San Diego dachshund community through Facebook, and Jacqueline started decorating for the event.

“Chris said it made him feel really good,” Chris’ wife, Liz, told The Dodo. “He got to hold a dog, which was wonderful because he can’t walk too far … They made a 97-year-old man very happy.”

They started off as strangers who love dogs and now they are spreading happiness in their community through their beloved pets.

“Carolyn said it brought her so much joy seeing all of the beautiful dachshunds on her lawn,” Lani said. “Her heart felt full that day.”

This all started because Friday is such a headturner, and so are all other dogs, they are all adorable. “He’s reminded us about the importance of community and human connection,” Lani said.
